{VIDEO} Young Moms Chase Gold In The Olympics

I’m not an athletic person at all, but I’m married to a man who literally took two weeks off work to watch the Olympics. Talk about a fiend. I’ve been impressed with the athleticism and the incredible commitment it takes to become the best at your sport.

Recently, the Huffington Post put together a piece on mothers competing in the Olympics and wouldn’t you know I was able to pick out a couple of young mamas?

Lashinda Demus – Track & Field, 400m hurdles, 29

I saw Lashinda Demus run the 400 meter hurdles in the Olympics on Monday and as she finished first in the qualifying rounds, the camera panned to the crowd to her five-year-old twins. As a young mother, Demus said she had to work hard to get back in shape after kids and having them at the Olympics means the world to her. “They don’t know what the Olympics are. They know that I run. They just assume that I will win every single race.”

Candace Parker – USA Basketball, 26

WNBA player and international superstar Candace Parker had her first child at 23 and the world wondered if she’d be able to play at the same level she had pre-baby. Well, now she’s in London for the Olympics – does that answer the question? Here she talks about how her daughter’s birth was better than any championship and how hard she trains to excel at the sport she loves.
