I Knew I Was A Mom When…Two Under Two Didn’t Faze Me

by Tameka Bullock

I knew I was a mom when I knew I could manage 2 kids under 2 and not have a nervous breakdown everyday.

Your life changes with children in general, but to have two of them 11 months apart, almost exactly…to say that my life changed is an understatement!

My life has gone from 0 to 110 in a matter of seconds! I had to quickly develop routines and organization and a system that no matter what, they stuck to a schedule. And yes, please believe me when I say that there were days where I wanted to go in a room and cry…and I have.

Just like this one time when my oldest was teething and my youngest was finally readjusted to the right way of sleeping. I just got her to sleep and had my oldest laying down when she jumped up out of her bed screaming and  ran over to my youngest daughter’s crib, stole her ninny (pacifier) and proceeded to run around the room screaming until someone rescued her.

And before I could walk into their room, my youngest was screaming at the top of her lungs and would not rest until she had her ninny, her blanket, and me rocking her to sleep. I had a very long day at work and it was one of those days where it just went by too fast!

So, stressed out mommy + 1 teething toddler + 1 screaming newborn = &^$&**$&$^

But I didn’t have any time to waste. I grabbed some energy out of my reserve and asked for God to give me whatever I needed to get them to sleep, which included Orajel, formula, a sippy cup of milk, blankets and 2 ninnys. About 2 hours later, we were all sleep and everyone was content.

A lot of people ask me how we do it and we just say that it has to be done, no excuses, no crying. Now that they are 2 and almost 15 months, it has gotten easier. I do not regret any second of it and I love it because it continues to show me how strong I am and how I can do anything because it’s all possible.
