Wanna get away?

Sometimes you just get so stressed with “regular life” that you have the urge to somewhere – ANYWHERE – to help you cope. It’s summer, right? So you want to kick back and relax and have someone else cook and clean for a change.

But when you’re working with an entry-level (or close to entry-level) salary and little kids, it can feel limiting in where you can go. I took my kids to Columbus (a two-hour drive) for a quick overnight trip last year and almost lost my mind the last 30 minutes in the car with all the fussing and yelling they were doing. Granted, my daughter was 2 and my son was barely 1 but still. It’s no good being stuck in traffic with crying babies. *shivering*

But once we got there the kids had a ball. We took them to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (rated #1 in the world) and let me tell you – that place is HUGE. I could’ve slept for a week after walking through ALL the exhibits all over the zoo. Everything was spread out, but it was packed with things to see and do.

I want to do more vacations like this, these little quick trips that don’t cost much but are just great for spending quality time with the kids. Everything is so busy these days – I want to get back to what makes sense for me and my family. And we need time away from the house to regroup and renew!

Any readers in the Ohio area who would like to check out the Columbus Zoo? I have a Buy One Get One admission coupon good for up to six admissions, to be used on Saturday June 5. I’ll be heading there (fingers crossed) for the Multicultural Tourism Day event sponsored by the Ohio Tourism Division. I hope to see you there!

Anyone have any tips on creating a great vacation for the kids without spending a ton of money? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Wish I lived closer to you, that sounds like fun!

We don’t normally do vacations, but this year we’re splurging and getting annual passes to our local CocoKey Water Resort, its an indoor/outdoor water park. So, for $120, we have unlimited time there for a whole year. Sounds good to me.

  2. Aww that sounds nice. Jaedyn would definitely like to go so sign us up!

  3. Too bad we aren’t close either. June 5th is my daughter’s birthday =). That would have been a fabulous location for celebrating. I am still thinking of a mommy-daughter get away for us that won’t hurt our pockets. Along the same lines, local museums and libraries often are filled with special events, often being free to the community. And heading to resorts during non-holidays can yeild savings.
