Live blogging the premiere of MTV’s new show, “Teen Mom”

I’m excited to see how MTV portrays teen motherhood. I hope it’s an honest and realistic portrait of how things go down after the baby arrives. I’ll be live blogging my thoughts during the show. You can follow along either in the comments or in the chat feature in the sidebar. Make sure you refresh the page:

10:02: Farrah’s mom isn’t too happy about her daughter going on a date. I can understand that. If my teen daughter still lived with me and had a 6-month-old girl in my house, I’d be catching attitude too. But she’s in culinary school, working, modeling and taking care of the baby. Doesn’t she need some fun as well, or do you give that up completely as a teen mom?

10:04: Oooh, Catelynn’s getting the Mirena. Good choice! She’s the one who gave her daughter up for adoption and her parents didn’t agree. But why is she and her boyfriend still having unprotected sex? Grrr….

10:06: Maci and her fiance. Ugh. I can tell from jump that this guy isn’t right for her, but it’s hard to take the shades off when looking at the guy you lost your virginity to.

10:08: Amber. “There’s a lot I like about taking care of Leah, but I could use some help.” Girl, join the club. “If I don’t get some time to myself, I think I’m gonna lose it.” Again, join the club. Meetings are on Tuesdays.

10:13 – Farrah’s dating a model. Hmmm…They’re going to get ice cream, huh? “Looking at me, would you have thought that I had a kid?” “No, you’re goregous.” WTF? Moms can’t be hot?

10:16 – Why is Farrah cussing her mom out? Oooh, Lord. So she’s beefing with her sister because she wants to date.

10:21 – Maci and Ryan are talking about their upcoming wedding. See, I don’t know about those two.

10:22 – Oh, goodness, Amber sounds unhappy. (On a side note, little Leah is a chunky-chunky baby.) Amber tries to take her daughter to lunch with a friend and the baby is crying is too much for Amber to take. She can’t eat her food in peace and they decide to leave early. She is really letting loose in the car. “Being a mom stresses me out.” I actually recognize a bit of myself in Amber – stressed and not fully realizing the magnitude of motherhood. With an unsupportive partner and no other support system to rely on, Amber is headed for a serious depressive episode.

10:28 – So Catelynn’s mom is married to (her boyfriend) Tyler’s dad. Um, okay…

10:29 – I think Catelynn is being very mature about this. Tyler’s dad is really going at her for their decision to put their daughter up for adoption, but she’s standing strong and just letting him run his mouth.

10:30 – Farrah’s trying to date, and this time she’s having him meet her parents, at their request. Okay, they have a nice house. But man, Farrah’s mom is on POINT. “What went wrong with your previous relationships? What are you looking for in this one? What’s your religious background?”

10:38 – Amber’s meeting with a doctor. “I don’t feel like a teenager no more ever since I had the baby.”

10:43 – Catelynn and Tyler only get to see their daughter (who they gave up for adoption) twice a year, according to the adoptive agreement. It’s so interesting to contrast their situation with the other teen moms. I wonder how it would be if they had decided to raise their daughter. (Although I think they made the right choice.)

10:44 – Amber: “You’re like 97% of the reason why I’m stressed…It’s not you, it’s the relationship.”

10:47 – Farrah’s mom is right, but she’s going about it the wrong way. They need serious counseling to get their communication together. Farrah wants to drive 3 hours to confront the guy she was dating about why he lied to her about seeing other women and her mom is trying to tell her it’s a waste of her time. Which it is. I think Farrah is trying to so hard to hold on to her previous life and doesn’t fully embrace her role as “Mommy.”

10:54 – Maci’s sad ’cause her fiance has to leave on a work-related trip for a month and they have a bunch of wedding details to work out.

10:56 – Farrah needs to chill out for a minute. She’s spending too much energy thinking about guys. She’s pretty, she’s smart, she can find someone who respects her. Give it time.
