i did the impossible

For the past two nights, I have gone to sleep before 9 p.m.

Hot.damn.

I didn’t stay up checking e-mail and writing blog posts or posting on Twitter or updating Facebook or brainstorming article ideas or folding clothes or straightening the living room.

I was tired so I took my butt to bed.

Do you know how liberating that was?

I felt if I went to bed before midnight that I must be slacking. After all, if I crashed before the day offficially turned into the next, then who would wash the dishes, or do the laundry or write these blog posts or post the giveaway (I promise I have a cool one really soon!)?

Yeah, I have a husband but I was driving myself crazy by insisting that I do everything on my to-do list that very day.

I took myself to bed, pulled the covers up tight and watched an episode of Scrubs before falling asleep with a chuckle still in my throat. It was nice. I highly recommend it.

It felt good to just do something that I wanted to do because I wanted to do it. I’ve got to try this more often.

What about you? What time do you usually go to bed? Do you feel guilty if everything’s not checked off your to-do list before you hit the sack?

  1. Don’t feel guilty about not getting things done once. Everyone deserves a break sometimes.

Since I don’t have kids yet, I don’t feel too guilty about not getting things done because I know I can do them tomorrow. Which is not a good attitude. However, I go to bed around 11pm. I am trying to soak it all in before we have children, but I will embrace it when it happens.

  2. I do not feel guilty about going to bed early. I use to go to bed much earlier around 9 o’clock but now I may stay up until 10:30. Usually when I do stay up it is to hang out and watch tv with my husband definitely not cleaning. I sometimes have the urge to get things done, but after training myself I am more relax and it easier to let things wait until morning or whenever. But, I do not like to go to sleep with a dirty house so around 6ish I have the girls pick up all their toys, and if the floor needs vacuuming I will do that. Luckily, my husband washes the dishes so I seldom have to wash the dishes but I do still have to mop which usually happens early in the morning. All other things I try to spread out throughout the day or week. Daily lists can’t have more than two or three things on them or I will feel overwhelm :)

I am happy that you gave yourself a break. Congratulations!!!

  3. I am so happy for you! I know that feels good.

  4. Good for you! I always feel better when I go to bed early. It helps me to rise earlier and without the help of an alarm clock. I am sometimes guilty of not going to bed till everything is done, but as my kids get older and can do more, this becomes less of an issue.

  5. I’m proud of you girl!! Good job on realizing that you needed some rest. I’m usually up until 12am, unless I am exhausted. Sometimes I feel bad about no getting everything done that I set out to do that day, but then I realize that it can always be done tomorrow, AND that sometimes I will load my to-do list down, knowing darn well I’m not gonna get everything done that’s on that list, lol.
