Are You Giving Yourself Permission To Be Happy?

My 30th birthday is a little over a month away and this weekend, I took the bold step of purchasing two plane tickets (one for me and one for my hubby) to head to New Orleans to ring in 30 properly!

Some of you might not realize how huge this is. I hardly ever travel if it isn’t for work or a vacation with the kids. I will hop on a plane in a minute for a conference or something that will bring joy to my babies’ faces. But to take a vacation just for myself? I’ll search Expedia all day long but actually spend money? I don’t typically do that.

But for my 30th birthday I wanted to celebrate ME and all I accomplished in my 20s. The list is pretty massive—had two babies, got two degrees, married a pretty fly dude, bought a house, started two businesses, and published two books. I’m proud of me.

So for four days I will be indulging in all the great food and sights NOLA has to offer and doing the things that strike my fancy (and even a few things that scare me). I’m kicking off my thirties in the way I want the rest of the decade to go—full of fun, curiosity, and confidence.

My question to you this week is: How will you celebrate yourself? You don’t have to wait until after a big accomplishment or until a big milestone birthday to do something that brings joy to your life. Give yourself permission to create happiness in your life now.

When we get too weighed-down with the day-to-day responsibilities, we forget how fun life can be. But we weren’t put on this earth to pay bills and die. (That won’t be my life and I don’t think you want it to be yours either.)

Your challenge: To find ONE upcoming event before the end of the year that you will take yourself to (even if all your friends are busy or can’t make it). Get out of the house, take yourself out and live. I promise you it will be worth it.

    Hello
How do I celebrate my birthday when I am all alone in my life?

    Regards
    Anjali

    • Maybe use your birthday to get some of your friends who may be too busy together. That is what I do. I dont have a partner and don’t have a lot of family near by.

    • You could also celebrate yourself by induldging in something you dont typically do like, sleep late, get a manicure, buy a new book, etc… you dont need anyone else to enjoy some quality low stress me time.

  2. I love this encouragment to make our own happiness a priority. My favorite quote, “Give yourself permission to create happiness in your life now.”

  3. My son is only 1 (in 9 days) but I haven’t been anywhere or done anything really without him yet. I love being his mommy but I’m looking forward to some me time in the near future.

  4. I went to New Orleans for my 30th too. I have no kids, but I have accomplished a lot once I stop and really look at where I am and what I have done. Thank you for bringing that all to the forefront.

  5. I am proud of you too! Congrats on all of your accomplishments. Sounds like you deserve a vacation and New Orleans is a great place to celebrate your birthday. I believe in taking time for myself and as such am headed to Cancun next week for a girls trip. I cannot wait!

  6. Yaay for you. I try to celebrate myself as much as possible. Whether it is with a vegan pizza, or I love to do the whole family travel and then find some time alone when we are there. Normally there is room service involved.

  7. Sounds like a great way to ring in your 30th! Hope you enjoy!

  8. I love NOLA! The food, music, & beignets. For my 40th I treated myself to A 10 day adventure through Spain. It’s great that you’re treating yourself :)

  9. I really started doing this once I started Naturally Glam. I left everyone behind if needed to do what I had to do. Even if that was just going somewhere quite and enjoying a cup of coffee while reading emails.

  10. I try to get away and hit up a coffee house for some alone time. Every now and then, I get together with a friend for a dinner or a weekend away. It’s so needed.

  11. Girl, yes! How exciting! I wish I had done something like that. Now that I’m in my forties, I really need to start traveling more.

  12. What a great idea. This is such a good reminder. I’m planning to take a trip to NYC later this year or very early next year. I really need to travel more…even if I take smaller day trips versus bigger international trips.

Thanks for sharing and Happy Birthday!

  13. This is so great! I have to start to celebrate myself. I am going to celebrate the small victories every week.

  17. How can I stop myself from thinking too much, talking to myself, and imagining impractical future situations, as it distracts me from the rest…

  18. Do you have to give yourself permission to say no?
