Supporting Those Who Support Us

If you’ve spent a good amount of time on this blog over the past few years, you’ll know that I am a huge supporter of The National Crittenton Foundation. They work to support young women – women like us. Women who had children at an early age and need a network of support systems to help them get their education and thrive as a young parent. They help women who are survivors of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. They help young women who are struggling with poverty, homelessness, substance abuse and violence. They truly take their mission seriously, giving a voice to those who society tries to silence.

The National Crittenton Foundation has been selected by the GlobalGiving Foundation to participate in its Open Challenge, a fundraising opportunity for nonprofit organizations around the world. In order to succeed in GlobalGiving’s Open Challenge, they have to raise $4,000 from 50 unique donors by April 30, 2012.

Your donation will make it possible for young women survivors of violence to go to DC to share their powerful stories with decision makers.  They will meet with their Congressional representatives and develop leadership and advocacy skills so they can speak their truth everyday and everywhere.

I’ve gone with them to D.C. to speak with Congressional representative and it is an amazing feeling. To sit face-to-face with people who make the laws and shape the direction of our country? You feel incredibly powerful and ready to make a difference in any way you can think.

The easiest way to donate? Why, there are a few:

  1. Visit this link and click the “Donate” button.
  2. Text Text GIVE 10066 to 80088 to donate $10 to We Are Not Invisible. (Message and data rates may apply. Only works for US mobile phones.)

Then check out Breauna’s story of how Crittenton helped her succeed – “I just wanted to be heard. I just wanted to be recognized.”

Please support the National Crittenton Foundation – they’ve shown so much love and support for us over the past three years that I can’t help but return the favor.
