True story: My son was due August 10th last year. I was praying he came a few days early so his birthday could be 8/8/08 (because how cool would that be?!).
Then, around late July, my doctor and I made the decision to have a C-section. He asked me if August 3 (a Sunday) would work for me.
I had just read a few days earlier that Obama’s birthday was August 4th. “How cool would it be that they have the same birthday?” I thought to myself.
Before I could fix my mouth to say anything, my doctor said, “No, let’s make it August 4th.” Which was one week before my due date, when they typically do scheduled C-sections.
Sweet! Not only were both my babies born in the age of Obama, but my son has the same birthday as No.44. I love it and couldn’t have planned it any better.
So I’ve been obsessed with collecting all the Obama merchandise I can. I’ve been taking all the Newsweeks and Times from the magazine rack at work, hoarding newspapers like my life depends on it, and taking pictures of inane things like websites and TV screens. I’m a bit hardcore over here.
I saw this at Borders on Friday and knew instantly I had to add it to my collection:
I know it’s $17, but, come on, can you really put a price on history? I think not.
Here’s an interview with the author Nikki Grimes, in which she discusses how she presented President Obama’s life story for kids.
Hey! That IS super cool. He will be just as cool as my daughter’s classmate “Malia” =).
We have that book too. I just read it again to Miss J the other night. Her eyes light up about everything “Obama”.
I am sure lil’ man will be delighted to know that you went the extra mile to make his day super special =)
