Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

I am officially the world’s WORST gift-giver.

Why, you ask? For one, I can’t even get a decent grip on my calendar to note that the day is coming. Two weeks ago, my husband asked me what I wanted for Valentine’s Day. I was wondering why he would be asking since…oh, wait, Valentine’s Day is coming up. SOON. Crap. He could tell by the look on my face that I had completely spaced out and he should lower his expectations on his gift. LOL

While I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself to go all out on Valentine’s Day, it’s nice to set aside time for the one you love and show them just how much they matter to you. I put together this list for all the women who, like me, have the best intentions, but need some last-minute Valentine’s Day gift ideas to help them pull off a wonderful surprise.

For Him

In short, I’ve found that I’ve had the best luck by gifting my husband experiences versus material items. My husband’s the type to go buy whatever it is he needs when he needs it, so I’m left struggling to find that item that he really wants/needs right up until midnight, February 14. Here’s a few of my sure-fire hits – add any other ones you can think of in the comments:

Tickets to a comedy show

When my husband and I first started dating, we visited a local comedy club at least twice a month. Tickets were cheap (we usually got them for free once we joined the mailing list), the bar food was good and the comedians were funny. We always left feeling a bit happier and more in love. Find a comedy club near you or book tickets for when a big-name comedian rolls through your city.

Tickets to a sporting event

Is your man a football, basketball, baseball fan? Depending on the sport, you might be out of luck until the summer or fall, but if your man is a general sports nut like mine, announcing you have two tickets to [insert game here] can be a guaranteed fun night out.

Pre-planned date nights

If you’re both insanely busy, why not get proactive and show them that quality time is important to you. Grab their calendar and block off time for the two of you – get some popcorn for movie night, make a reservation for dinner at a new restaurant, or do something together you used to do all the time when you first got together.

One “grown man” item

Sometimes – just sometimes – it’s up to the woman in a man’s life to ever so gently coax him into embracing his manhood. My husband, for example, will wear those free T-shirts they give out at college events for the rest of his life unless I suggest that perhaps he invest in a few sweaters and ties. Buy your man a “nice” item that’s an upgrade from what he’s currently rocking, whether it’s a new hat, gloves, wallet, etc.

For You

I’m a firm believer in getting yourself a lil’ something for Valentine’s Day. You work hard, you take care of so many people — it’s only right that you show yourself some love, too.

Lush Bath Bombs

I’ve only recently discovered the beauty of bathtime for mama. After a long day, a nice hot soak is everything you need and more. Try these bath bombs from Lush (most are $10) to add a little luxury.

A pretty night gown

There is something about wearing a silky smooth sleep gown that makes me feel like a brand-new woman. I’ve purchased two over the past two months and I want more. One of these from Victoria’s Secret might do the trick.

New nail polish

I’ve only recently graduated from the N.Y.C nail polish line (you know, the $1 bottles) to the more expensive brands. I rarely keep polish on my nails for long but a good nail polish makes all the difference. I like Essie and their plum collection has a lot of cute shades to choose from.
