Support Share Our Strength And Give A Hungry Child Breakfast!

Growing up, I never ate breakfast in the mornings before school. It wasn’t because we didn’t have food at the house. I just wasn’t hungry so I didn’t eat.

Well, wouldn’t you know, I would get to school and my stomach would start rumbling. I would be in math class, trying to concentrate, but all I could think about was what I was going to eat for lunch. I didn’t get the connection until much later, but I’m pretty convinced my math grades suffered because I was too hungry to focus and pay attention.

Sadly, this scenario is all too common in America. One in 5 children don’t get enough to eat, which can lead to behavioral and emotional problems. Think about it: How do you act when you are hungry? Are you calm? Focused? Alert? Happy? Pleasant?

I’m teaming up with the The Mission List to talk about child hunger this holiday season. This video shares how Share Our Strength improves access to school breakfast programs. Take a look:

Donations to No Kid Hungry help Share Our Strength provide food, supplies, and technical assistance to organizations feeding kids via summer meal and breakfast programs. They also teach families how to prevent hunger at home. For every $1 donated, Share Our Strength can connect a child to 10 breakfasts, which is incredible. For an $18 donation, they can provide 180 breakfasts — EVERY DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

Please take a minute and donate what you can. It can mean the difference between the child going hungry and a child being secure in where his next meal is coming from.

  1. This is so true! Sesame Street made an episode dedicated to food insecurity it’s a SERIOUS problem. Then public schools simply through away the left over often times UNTOUCHED food that is left at the end of the day. Imagine how great it would be if they would send that home with the children.

  2. Awesome cause – cheers Tara!
