In Good Company: Execumama

January 13, 2009 | Cool stuff I know you'll like

This is what happens when cool folks leave comments on my blog! I meet new and exciting bloggers!

Akilah, also known as the creator of the Execumama brand, reached out to me after she read a post here that she liked. I stumbled over to her site and boom! I fell in love.

Her site is all about the young moms (reaching out to those under 35!) and her book is the absolute truth!

“Everything was very much ’soccer-mom’-ish,” she said. “Or for the young moms, it was the whole ‘Brenda’s got a baby’ feel.”

She has some solid advice for young moms:

1) Don’t go against your own grain. Figure out what your natural tendencies are and make your life fit into that.

2) Give yourself more credit. Embrace who you are.

3) Embrace your imbalance. Understanding you can’t do everything is very empowering.

4) Surround yourself with like-minded women.

Do me (and yourself!) a favor and go pick up her book. You won’t be disappointed!

As always, you can follow me on Twitter and check out the group on Facebook for more on young motherhood. (Be sure to check out our Question of the Day!) Even if you’re not a “young mom,” you are welcome to join! I'll see you there.

I just came across this blog. As a 20-something woman expecting her first in April, I’m really excited about your perspective. Please keep sharing this great advice.
